Exploring Creation with Apologia’s Zoology 2 Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day

The textbook is a Charlotte Mason style living book that takes a deep dive into fourteen lessons. It is designed for multiple age groups and creates a family learning atmosphere. Apologia’s Zoology 2 is a yearlong study, however can be completed in less than a year. It depends on your own individualized pace for your family. Once we completed the first three chapters, we skipped around according to my children’s interest levels. For example, my son grew a curiosity and fondness for sea turtles. We found the lesson on “Stupendous Turtles of the Sea”. We examined the different patterns of sea turtle scutes. We were amazed that the scutes of their shells are made of a thick substance called keratin! We also discovered that their spines are connected to their magnificent shells. On another occasion, a juvenile humpback whale beached near us. Through the text, we learned so much about these blissful baleen beauties. Then, we brought this study to life by visiting the marine mammal that had been stranded for days.

As a busy mother, the audiobooks are one of my favorite features. The audiobook helps in many different ways. It assists struggling readers. It aids auditory learners and accommodates children who love being read to. When my youngest takes a nap, I grab a cup of coffee and listen to the text with my children. Sometimes I have snacks my children can munch on while learning through the audio book. Homeschooling moms need to take breaks. Sitting down and listening to something educational is a nice pause in the day. It is also handy for when I need to step away from the lesson for a moment. My children can continue reading the lesson without interruptions. It is simple to use and the whole entire book is read aloud to your child!
As a Christian homeschool mother, I take great delight in science curriculum. Especially courses that point to the Creator and engages my learners in His miraculous wonders.
